Teamwork & Sports Basics- Currently Unavailable
Goals of this course are designed to assist in developing a strong bond and a working relationship between the dog and the handler, practice team bonding/skills, and a chance to learn new activities and/or sports in our large indoor arena and Aquatic Center where the handlers/dogs may practice team work, trying new skills, maneuvering obstacles, jumping, swimming, dock-jumping, and more (dog activities are purely recreational in nature).
SWIMMING & DOCK-DIVING
Intro to Swim/Water Safety
Many people assume that dogs are natural swimmers, but that just isn't the case. Some breeds really do take to the water, but even specific ‘water’ breeds can drown accidentally, especially when the summer sun finds dogs of all shapes and sizes in contact with backyard pools, beaches, lakes, stock ponds, and neighborhood retention ponds and dog park swimming holes. It’s estimated that thousands of family pets die in drowning incidents each year - most dogs enjoy cooling off in a pool or pond when it’s hot – but many could benefit from swimming or safety lessons. Good for your canine companion and great fun too! Our instructors use positive techniques to ensure your dog enjoys the experience. Life jackets and treats are included and you will get wet so appropriate attire (including non-slip shoes) is recommended.
Puppy Paddle & Play - Currently Unavailable-
An activity class designed for Alpha K9 U's Puppy & Intermediate Puppy Graduates as we all know it can be difficult to keep up with the energy of a precocious puppy! The good news is that exercising your puppy with this fun activity doesn't need to take a lot of time or effort. Not only is continuous socialization great for growing pups but swimming and water play provides a fabulous, low-impact workout that won’t put stress on a dog’s developing joints. Don't forget to bring his/her favorite fetch toy -- preferably one that floats -- and let the good times begin!
Air Dogs ("Big Air") - Dock-Diving
The "Long Jump" for Dogs. Goals of this course is designed to teach a dog and the handler to work together as a team, teaching the dog to jump the greatest distance into a pool. The handler throws a retrievable object into a 40' pool as the dog runs down a 40' dock, and leaps out as far as he/she can to have fun in this dog sport. No worries if your dog has never swam before we will help with swimming lessons. Our swim instructors use positive techniques to ensure your dog enjoys the experience. Life jackets and treats are included and you may get wet so appropriate attire (non-slip shoes) is recommended.
Swimming & Intro to Dog Dock-Diving ("Big Air"): The goals of this class are to teach basic Dock-Diving skills, introducing your dog to the water and the dock, how to select a retrievable object, how to control your dog while on the dock, retrievable object throwing techniques, dock diving rules, etc.
Dog Dock-Diving (Multi-Level): The goals of this class is to help you improve upon "Big Air" techniques including handler skills, increasing drive, improving lift and distance, etc.
X GAMES - EXTREME SPORTS (ADVANCED TEAMS ONLY)
X-treme Vertical: The “High Jump” for dogs. A “Bumper” is hung from a specially designed Extender Arm and placed 8 feet from the edge of the dock. The Bumper is then placed at the chosen starting height for each team. Rounds will continue with the bumper being raised in 2 inch increments per round until the dog that jumps the highest distance. Skill Level: K-9's must be able to jump off of the Competition Dock without hesitation.
X'treme Retrieve: It’s All About Speed! X'treme Retrieve has nothing to do with the dog’s ability to jump but rather its speed. Each team is allowed to use a maximum of 10 feet of the dock surface and is allotted 60 seconds to get into the water. However, instead of measuring distance or height, each dog is racing against the clock. Upon entering the water, each dog must swim to the end of a 40 foot pool and to retrieve the "Bumper" and cross the finish line in order to complete their timed run. Skill Level: K-9's must be able to jump off of the Competition Dock without hesitation.
Triple Threat Iron Dawg: A combined competition wave/heat consisting of all of the three (3) events (dock-diving sport disciples). The sport disciples include, in order, X’treme Vertical, Alpha Air, and X’treme Retrieve. The rules for each event (sport discipline) within the Triple Threat Iron Dawg competition are generally the same as for the individual sport disciplines themselves. Skill Level: Teams/K-9 Athletes must be able to preform each sport discipline, to some degree, as we can/will assist the team in perfecting certain skill sets e.g., Alpha Air (“Big Air”), X’treme Retrieve, and X’treme Vertical.

AGILITY
Agility Introduction: Class consists of doing flat-work, using limited agility equipment and/or more simplified versions of the obstacles to teach handlers the proper way to handle the dog. There are several common obstacles that your dog will learn to navigate such a travel dog walk, jumps, tunnel or chute, ladder, see-saw (or teeter-totter), etc. We believe that a foundation sets the stage for a solid relationship with the dog that is critical to enjoying and succeeding in agility.
Friendly Reminder!
Our class sizes are limited, and our classes fill up quickly - so make sure to register ASAP to secure your spot!
